25 Years in Mortgage has taught me lots
Having been in the mortgage business for over 25 years has taught me quite a bit. First, I've learned that long-term exposure to mortgages is not good for hair growth. Secondly, working with your wife sometimes makes date-night more business than pleasure (not too bad I assure you!). And lastly, every decision in life now must be done on a spreadsheet!
All kidding aside, these last 25 years have taught me so many good lessons and I would love to share with a couple with you.
Tip #1 - Please get represented by an Agent
I've seen the good, bad and ugly when it comes to Real Estate Transactions... and if there is one thing I've learned, it's that it is absolutely necessary to be represented by a good Realtor. Over the years I have had the pleasure to work with a bunch of fantastic agents. Conversely, I've seen many a client go through so many unnecessary hurdles because they didn't have representation. Tip #2 - Watch the Video that got 100,000 views
I did a video a while back titled "Zillow's worst nightmare". It must have resonated with a bunch of folks seeing it now has over 100,000 views! Now, don't get me wrong, I really like Zillow. Love the user interface, ease of search and the data is has. The problem is that for the consumer it is not the best choice as their home search data is not all inclusive. Meaning: It doesn't have all the listings available on MLS and the data they do have is highly inaccurate. So, it is critical that you are getting listings directly from your agent, or from a direct MLS like HomeScout.
Regarding Zillow, there is a reason the data is less than perfect... Zillow is a marketing company. They monetize by selling consumer information to Loan Officers, Realtors and 3rd parties. So without paying a thing... you just got sold. Personally, that makes me feel dirty. That's why I recommend Home Scout.
